What is Training for Work?
Training for Work provides training support for people who are unemployed and actively looking for work. The programme - run by Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise - allows people to go on company placements and tap into formal training. In many cases, the trainees move into a full-time job.

The programme helps you to find a job through the provision of a range of work related and training opportunities. Each programme is tailored personally, and can generally last up to six months.

Who can take part?
Training for Work is open to adults who are 25 years and over, who have been unemployed for at least 6 months within the previous 52 weeks. However, there are exceptions to this. Ask your local Jobcentre for details.

What does Training for Work offer?
Trainees receive help from a network of training providers. A wide variety of skills and occupations is catered for. The programme is backed by local employers who provide on-the-job training.

Participants will be paid a “training allowance” – this is equivalent to their full benefit payment plus £10 a week week allowance plus travel costs. If the trainee gets a job out of the scheme they’ll be paid the rate for the job.

The progamme helps people find and get jobs and even start up their own businesses - with a range of support on offer.
